Did the black plague wipe out half the nation or is it just sugarcoated propaganda?

I do think the black plague or the black death as many people refer to it as the most deadly disease in human history. The death toll and environmental cause was so extreme that it will probably remain in humanity's history books until we somehow lose cognitive function to understand it. The pandemic originated in Europe and spread to other nations such as some middle eastern countries and almost all of north Africa. The first case of it was recorded in 1354. To look at how it would the most deadly disease we have to look at the nature of the disease itself. It was not a virus it was a pesticide or a bug called the Yersinia pestis which normally lived on rodents such as rats and guess what was one of the most common animals found around northern Africa and almost all of Europe it was rats. This created what was basically a hivemind for the disease to thrive in with European people living close together and being in a close proximity of rats also the reason European people were in close proximity of rats at almost all times is because the medieval architecture back then allowed rodents and other pests to live inside the walls or ceiling. It also didn't help that the cities lacked proper sanitation for example if you were the average medieval peasant and you ended up having the misfortune of walking the French streets your nose would probably be filled with a vile stench and if you looked on the gutter you would find human and animal waste alike this mixture of non sanitation and rat infested plague made it so the Yersinia pestis could travel rat to rat then once it made its way onto a human it could do the same process and travel human to human. Once you had it in a matter of time you would have various buboes which are big welts or bubble looking infections that grew on multiple surfaces most commonly the areas it grew on were the groin, armpits, or neck and sometimes the head these were quite massive and they looked disgusting to say the least. It did have many forms it was also airborne where evening leaving your house could make you a victim of the plague some people say it was the most depressing time in humanity and it pretty much was towns were silent bells didn't ring and all you could hear was the crying of woman and children. But the worst part of it wasn't the discomfort or the sorrow it was the hopelessness no one could really do anything doctors did try to come up with solutions such as the plague doctor outfit where a doctor would where a crow mask with scents in the beak to mask the foul odor surrounding them and coated there coats or robes whatever you call there clothing in wax and some sort of syrup. This was done so the disease couldn't leech onto them because the doctors really didn't want to get sick they would use a wooden cane or sometimes just a stick to examine or honestly just poke the patient because they didn't even have the medical knowledge at the time to treat it. Now that you have all the fundamental knowledge about the black plague do you have a general ball park guess of how many people it killed well if you guessed the mortality rate was an estimated 25 to 50 million deaths from 1346 to 1353 you would be correct.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Death
